Preparation Guide for a Maternity Photoshoot in the Nottingham Studio.

The best time for a maternity photoshoot is between 34-38 weeks. I would recommend booking in from around just after your 20 week scan. This is particularly important if you know you need a session on a Saturday in the Nottingham photography studio as Saturday sessions book well in advance.

Communicating Your Ideas:

Ahead of the session, don't hesitate to communicate your ideas, preferences, and any specific details with me. Whether it's regarding poses, themes, or specific shots you have in mind, there are never too many details you can share to ensure your vision is brought to life. In advance of the session keep communicating with me to inform me of your vision of what you like, the style and the shots you are comfortable with.

 What to Bring:

- Nude, black, and white sets of underwear for wardrobe options.

- Any personal items or clothing you'd like to incorporate into the photoshoot, such as an oversized shirt or sentimental accessories.

- If choosing to wear your own clothes, ensure they are picture-ready, meaning they are ironed, steamed, and free of wrinkles.

- Consider bringing any additional props or items that hold personal significance to you and your pregnancy journey.

I do have a client wardrobe for maternity sessions which consists of body suits, capes, and dresses. It can also be nice to have some nude shots taken. These are in a classy style and are optional. You may find as the session goes on you feel comfortable doing these. But, there is no obligation to and they are completely optional.

Personal Grooming:

- Take time to prepare your hands and nails, as they often feature prominently in maternity photos. Ensure your nails are clean, well-maintained, and free of chipped polish.

- The same goes for your partner and any children who will be participating in the photoshoot. Ensure they are well-groomed and presentable.

-Moisurise well on the morning of the session with a non greasy lotion. This will help reduce dry flakey skin. Avoid fake tans as these can give an unorganic orange look.

Safety Considerations:

Please inform me of any pregnancy-related conditions or concerns, such as high blood pressure or gestational diabetes, so I can tailor the session accordingly and ensure your comfort and safety throughout.

Temperature Comfort:

While the studio doesn't have central heating, heaters are available to adjust the temperature as needed. Please communicate if you feel too warm or not warm enough during the session, so I can make adjustments accordingly.

 Hair and Makeup:

It's not essential to have your hair and makeup professionally done ahead of the session. However, if you plan to do your own, avoid anything shiny or overly glossy. Consider that I will be getting you to look down at your bump causing your hair to fall in front of your face which I will move, if you are not comfortable with this then please consider wearing your hair pinned back from the face.

Including Partners and Children:

Remember, you are the star of the show, but partners and other children are more than welcome to participate in the photoshoot. If bringing other family members, consider their attire by reading the following guidelines:

- Opt for coordinating colours and styles that complement the overall aesthetic of the photoshoot.

- Avoid busy patterns or logos that may distract from the main focus.

- Choose comfortable clothing that allows for ease of movement and encourages natural interactions and connections between family members.

By following these preparation tips, you can ensure a smooth and enjoyable maternity photoshoot experience in the Nottingham studio, resulting in beautiful, timeless images that capture the magic of this special time in your life.

The photoshoot will last around 90 minutes and we will be able to work through a combination of shots on your own and with your family/family pet. The session takes place in the Nottingham Photography Studio.

While booking your maternity session you should also consider booking your newborn photoshoot. Newbown photoshoots typically are booked in for around 10-14 days after your due date. Because I only take on so many newborn photoshoots in the Nottingham studio by only taking a limited number of sessions it allows flexibility to move your session should you be early or late.

The studio is in the Nottingham area. I am within easy reach of the M1 and so have clients from Derbyshire, Lincolnshire, Leicestershire and South Yorkshire. There is no Wifi available in the studio, so please be aware if bringing other children that you bring downloaded entertainment for them.
