Your Maternity Photography Questions Answered - Some of my most frequently asked questions.

As a maternity photographer in Nottingham I am quite often asked questions about the maternity/pregnancy shoot.

Q: When is the best time for a maternity photoshoot?
A: The best time for a maternity photoshoot is typically between 30 to 36 weeks of pregnancy. At this stage, your bump is beautifully round and prominent, but you're still comfortable enough to move around and pose for photos.

Q: What should I wear for my maternity photoshoot?
A: Opt for clothing that makes you feel comfortable and confident. Flowy dresses, form-fitting outfits that accentuate your bump, and solid colors or subtle patterns tend to photograph well. I also recommend bringing along a few outfit options to give you variety during the session. I do have a selection of dresses, body suits and props available in the maternity photography studio. If you see something of mine that you like, please let me know and I can make sure I have this handy for our session.

Q: Can my partner and other children be included in the photoshoot?

A: Absolutely! Including your partner and other children in the photoshoot adds a personal and meaningful touch to the images. Family shots are a wonderful way to capture the excitement and anticipation of welcoming a new addition to the family.

Q: What if I feel self-conscious about my changing body?
A: It's completely normal to have some apprehension about being in front of the camera, especially during pregnancy when your body is undergoing significant changes. As your photographer, I'm here to create a comfortable and supportive environment where you can feel confident and beautiful. I'll work with you to find flattering angles and poses that showcase your natural beauty and the miracle of pregnancy. I aim to have a consultation with you ahead of the session so we can discuss your likes and dislikes. There is the option to take some classy nude shots as well, there is no pressure. I have many clients tell me they were completley against the idea but as the shoot went on they felt so at ease that they wanted to do some nude shots.

Q: How long does a maternity photoshoot typically last?
A: A maternity photoshoot usually lasts between 1 to 2 hours, depending on the package you choose and the number of locations or outfit changes involved. I aim to keep the session relaxed and enjoyable, allowing plenty of time for breaks and adjustments as needed. In the Nottingham photography studio where the majority of sessions take place I usually allow up to 2 hours for the session. This will allow for a few outfit changes and a variety of poses.

Q: What happens after the photoshoot?
A: After the photoshoot, I'll carefully select and proof the best images from our session to create a stunning gallery for you to view and choose from. You'll have the opportunity to select your favorite images for retouching printing or digital download, depending on the package you've chosen.

Q: How far in advance should I book my maternity photoshoot?
A: It's best to book your maternity photoshoot as early as possible to ensure availability, especially if you have a specific date or location in mind. I recommend reaching out to me at least a few weeks in advance to secure your preferred date and discuss any specific ideas or preferences you may have.

Q: Can I request specific poses or locations for my maternity photoshoot?
A: Absolutely! Your maternity photoshoot should reflect your unique style and preferences. Feel free to share any ideas or inspiration with your photographer beforehand, and they'll work with you to bring your vision to life. The majority of pregnancy sessions take place in the Nottingham photography studio, however, April-October time there is the option of outdoor maternity sessions. I have a few locations in Nottingham I have used previously but am open to other locations if you have somewhere in mind.

Q: What should I do to prepare for my maternity photoshoot?
A: Prior to your photoshoot, drink plenty of water, get plenty of rest, and avoid wearing tight clothing that might leave marks on your skin. Consider pampering yourself with a manicure, pedicure, or hairstyle to help you feel your best on the big day. And most importantly, relax and enjoy the experience – it's a special moment in time that you'll treasure forever!
